Mark Diaz's Design Portfolio From HGTV Design Star season six 2011

Mark Diaz from "Design Star 2011" is one of the contestants in Season 6 of the interior design reality competition series on HGTV. He has a passion for edgy, modern styles and loves to include Asian-inspired minimalism and postwar industrial designs. He is a 33-year-old interior designer from Miami, Florida.

Mark Diaz ("Design Star 6"), who grew up in a large Cuban/Italian family, says he always had a natural knack for design. After winning a scholarship for his design work in high school, Mark went on to earn a B.A. degree, Design in Architecture, from Florida International University. With a self-described passion for edgy, modern styles, he moved to New York City where he specialized in luxury hospitality design. Despite a successful career, Mark says he missed the Florida sun and returned to Miami to start his own firm. His favorite design styles, which include mid-century modern, Asian-inspired minimalism and post-war industrial, combined with his love of martial arts, are the inspiration for his current line of chandeliers that are crafted from brass knuckles.

Natural and Modern

Organic and contemporary materials are combined to create a modern guest bathroom. Amazonian wood floors ground the room, and Diaz chooses a custom-designed floating vanity and a glass tile feature wall to create some wow-worthy moments in the space. 

Contemporary Master Bathroom

The master bathroom features Wenge floors and ceiling. A monolithic marble tub overlooks the bay, while a cantilevered vanity for two and sleek pendants fit in perfectly to the contemporary design.

Modern Miami Home

The 5,500-square-foot home on Palm Island in Miami features teak ceilings and decking. The modern structure has glass stair railings, custom stainless steel scuppers and a two-story vertical wood and aluminum louvered ribbed screen.

Elegant Dining

Rustic meets contemporary in the main bar and formal dining area of Barolo Ristorante. Sheer curtain panels allow filtered light into the space, while oversized mirrors help to expand the room visually.

For the Barolo Ristorante in Miami, Fla., Diaz designs an unexpected wine bottle display for their wine tasting bar. Dark woods and low lighting give the space a cozy, inviting ambience, while a large column is covered in mosaic tiles for a touch of sparkle.

Meg Caswell's Design Portfolio From HGTV Design Star season six 2011

Meg says she began her career in design the moment she decided not to attend law school. After she earned a degree in criminology, she soon enrolled at The Art Institute of Chicago where she earned a B.F.A in interior architecture. The interpersonal skills she learned during her criminology studies helps her develop a profile of her clients and uncover their true design preferences. As the owner of a design firm and a home décor store in Chicago, Meg characterizes herself as a determined, direct and high-energy competitor. She describes her design style as a preppy mix of modern and traditional, but she also counts the vibrant pastel colors of “Palm Beach chic” among her favorite looks.

Chic Living

Inspired by the couple's love for sculptural art, Caswell creates a contemporary eclectic living room.

An octagonal dining room is accentuated by the circular table and light fixture, while the horizontal-striped fabric helps to continue movement around the space.

The kitchen eating area is inspired by the client's minimal, monochromatic style.

The family kitchen features an oversized island for preparation and seating. The space also opens to the family room and a fabulous hidden pantry behind the walnut doors flanked by two refrigerators.

Contemporary Living

Caswell loves to combine silver and gold, which mixes nicely with the rustic leather sofa and vibrant orange chairs.

Doug Hines' Design Portfolio From HGTV Design Star season six 2011

Born and raised in New York City, the arts have always been a part of Doug’s life. Growing up, he studied visual arts and design and then later turned his passion for aesthetics into a career. Doug worked for several of New York’s top advertising agencies as a graphic designer before moving to Atlanta 12 years ago to open an art gallery. His talent for art consultation soon led him to designing interiors for several of Atlanta’s restaurants and nightclubs. While his favorite design style is mid-century modern, he also loves the glamour of Hollywood regency and the sleekness
of modern minimalism. Doug, who describes himself as a loyal friend, loves antiquing and yard-sale cruising in his spare time.

Antique, Yet Chic Bedroom

An Atlanta celebrity wanted a plush, yet timeless bedroom. Hines used items like vintage picture frames and an antique fan to create a classic yet timeless feel.

Old Becomes New

Hines had this antique table painted high gloss white to impart a modern look in this stylish bedroom. "Don't be afraid to mix vintage and contemporary furnishings," says Hines.

Retro Bar Lounge

Hines was inspired by a midcentury modern aesthetic for this soul food restaurant's lounge.



Eclectic Restaurant Lounge

This lounge-inspired dining room features a unique mix of styles. Textured, exposed brick is juxtaposed against soft fabrics, tulle and ornate crystal chandeliers.

Speakeasy-Inspired Bar

Hines wanted this room, the bar of an Atlanta tapas restaurant, to transport patrons back in time to a 1930s speakeasy bar. Ornate chandeliers, shades of burnt sienna and retro bar stools complete the space.

Hines found a massive vintage sofa to tie together this communal lounge area.

Kellie Clements' Design Portfolio From HGTV Design Star season six 2011



Kellie Clements from "Design Star 2011" is one of the contestants in Season 6 of the interior design reality competition series on HGTV. She uses her background in art to design rooms that are warm and contemporary with touches of whimsy. She is a 33-year-old interior designer from Edmond, Oklahoma.

A self-described "fireball," this married mom of two says people sometimes underestimate her design talent. Originally from Arkansas, Kellie Clements ("Design Star 6") grew up in an artistic family. Her parents were artists and allowed Kellie to mix paints and create artwork in their studio. Kellie, who holds a degree in interior design from the University of Central Arkansas, has more than 10 years of professional experience as a designer with a residential builder. She calls her design style "warm contemporary" — that is, it includes lots of color and whimsical touches.


Creative and Colorful

For a fundraiser for the Oklahoma Symphony, Clements designs a modern, whimsical family room. "The use of bright colors is one of my signature trademarks," says Clements.

Playful Touches

"If you look closely in the background, you can see one of my favorite design elements for this project. I had turquoise bird silhouettes applied to the window treatments and also painted one on the ceiling to give the illusion they were flying through the room," says Clements. 

Artistic Grouping

Clements designs a focal wall with tone-on-tone stripes. Playful lamps flank an original tree painting Clements commissioned from her mother.

Traditional and Stylish Kitchen

For a show home kitchen, Clements designs the layout of the cabinets to be functional and wow-worthy. A classic color combo of black and white is perfect for the traditional-style kitchen.

New Take on a Classic

An alternative to an expensive farmhouse sink – Clements creates the look by building out the cabinets and countertops and then covering with white subway tiles.

Old World Kitchen

Clements designed this cook top for the Old World home. A rustic cedar beam mixes with an elegant travertine backsplash for a perfect design recipe.

A Model Living Room

For this model home, Clement was just given a floor plan and a budget. She designed the entire house including the woodwork, finishes and all of the furniture and accessories.

Mix Design Styles

The modern eclectic bedroom combines colorful bedding and a mixture of patterns with natural elements and contemporary lighting.

Elegant, Traditional Bathroom

Who wouldn't love a lush ottoman in their master bath? Clements worked with a local craftsman to design the detail for the window as well as selecting all of the finishes.

All in the Details

Have fun with the accessories in a room. Clements intentionally uses a turquoise book with the coordinating stone on top to make old and new look like they were meant to be together.

French Country Home

Clements loves doing exteriors in shades other than beige or brown. For this French Country show home, she chooses a warm yellow with accents of black.


Tyler Wisler's Design Portfolio From HGTV Design Star season six 2011

Tyler Wisler (Design Star) biography pictures news forum Tyler Wisler from "Design Star 2011" is one of the contestants in Season 6 of the interior design reality competition series on HGTV. He loves to incorporate recycled materials, dark metals and wood into "industrial chic" spaces. He is a 35-year-old interior designer from South Orange, New Jersey.

After completing high school in Honolulu, Hawaii, Tyler Wisler ("Design Star 6") moved to the East Coast to attend Marymount University. Since earning a bachelor's degree in interior design 12 years ago, Tyler has worked as a professional interior designer in the New York City area. He believes that most of his design skills were developed by on-the-job experience with clients, who he says appreciate his attention to detail. Tyler says he enjoys the latest design trend of "industrial chic," which includes the use of recycled materials and dark metals paired with wood. As a professional designer, he says he always strives to give his clients the design they love, but will not hold back if he disagrees with a design decision.


Neutral Made New

Shades of oatmeal, ivory and beige don’t necessarily mean boring, as this comfortable and casually chic seating area proves. Gorgeous cream-lacquered nesting tables and floor lamp sit proudly alongside the intricate detail of a cloisonne drum stool, set off by lush printed linen drapery panels.

A Place for Reading and Relaxation

This tranquil reading space is quiet and relaxing. Wisler used a petrified teak wood stump aside a dark tobacco rattan lounge chair and ottoman. A hand-blown glass lamp illuminates the area.

Refined Neutral Bedroom

With unobstructed views of the East River, gorgeous modern art and a sprawling terrace, the last thing you want to do is overpower a room with distractions in the way of loud patterns and colors. The bisque-colored kid leather bed holds court in the room, but doesn’t deter from the splendor its surroundings offer.

Spice-Inspired Living Room

Smart and sophisticated, this modern living room celebrates the colors of the Turkish spice bazaar. Vibrant hues of saffron and paprika upholstery upon deep coffee-colored frames are peppered with accessories in bright aqua. 

Tranquil Bedroom

Keeping a muted color palette in a room is always a sure-fire way to ensure a sense of serenity, especially in a bedroom. Harmonious shades of aqua bounce around the room with eye-catching textural and pattern changes.

A Great, Great Room

A neutral color palette and smart space planning is the foundation unifying this large space, despite it being so multi-functional. Natural Belgian linens collide with supple ivory leather and rich chocolate ultra suede to give not only giving textural interest but practicality to this all-purpose room.
