Discovering the beauty in design of Twin Tower in Madrid, Spain

Under commission of the Kuwait Investment Office (KIO), the American architects Philip Johnson & John Burgee were responsible for the design of Puerta de Europa I and II, two twin office towers, located in Madrid, Spain. Their design is spectacular, contemporary and they are placed in a key location-one of Madrid’s most important boulevards called Paseo de la Castellana.
The architects built the first inclined skyscrapers in the world and they received help from Leslie E. Robertson Associates with the structural engineering and the construction was supervised by Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas. The towers stretch 30 meters over the boulevard. The angle of inclination is of 15 degrees and the skyscrapers rise to 114 meters.
There is also a counterweight that is necessary to counteract the forces that could overturn the towers. It’s a 60x10x10 meter concrete counterweight. The structure of the buildings is made of steel so it can offer stability. The steel structure can be noticed by passers by.
The main structure is combined with stainless steel while the secondary structure is clad with red metal. The space between the structural elements has a dark reflective curtain that has charcoal mullions. Even if the towers are alike there is one element that differentiates them. The west tower has a blue helipad on the roof and its eastern twin has a red helipad.

A creative office design for Science Center Medical Technology

Called the Science Center Medical Technology and can be found at Potsdamer Platz, this office is one of the representatives of Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH, a renowned medical technology company from Germany.
The design of the structure was made in collaboration with the owners from Otto Bock, the designers from Gnädinger Architects and the media designers from Art+ Com. The project has an unique approach, being the first of its kind. The touch of genius is the insertion of an exhibition that invites us to discover the world of medical technology.
It`s interesting how people come up with original designs. For example, let`s take the façade of the building. It was inspired from the idea of human muscle fibers and the people from Gnädinger has to wrap the six storey building in a sort of an amorphous façade, taking into consideration the fact that the structure of the building is made of reinforced concrete.
The building combines two different concepts: high-tech and nature, but there is no trace of unbalanced architecture. The exterior is white and made of organic materials that make the building look like a human muscle fiber and this idea suggests the complexity of the human body as well as the complexity of this architectural design and the processes that the company handles. Aluminum and glass were used to create the outer shell of the building-this being an unique point in favour of a new style in architecture for Berlin. The surrounding building fit a traditional pattern, they`re made either of stone or of glass.

Twitter’s New Office

Twitter’s New Office

new twitter offices

The popular social networking site Twitter recently relocated its office headquarters to a space previously occupied by Bebo in San Francisco’s SoMa district.  The interior design of the new office was spearheaded by Sara Morishige Williams, whose goal was to “bring the outdoors in, while making the space playful yet useful and sustainable”.  The entire office is equipped with wifi connectivity, and has several fun features such as a dj booth, arcade, custom concrete conference tables, and of course plenty of playful bird depictions.

Here’s some pictures taken by the company’s own employees.

The popular social networking site Facebook recently employed the services of San Francisco design firm Studio O+A to design their new corporate headquarters in Palo Alto’s Stanford Research Park, and the results are not surprisingly quite impressive.

The offices were designed to facilitate employee interaction and connection in order to reflect the company’s mission to connect people; a notion that was even reflected during the design phase of the offices as company-wide polls and personal interviews were conducted to determine what the employees wanted from .

The new facility is the first commercial project that has been completed under Palo Alto’s 2008 Green Building Ordinance, which was accomplished by recycling and repurposing various components of the original facility such as millwork and industrial components.  Furthermore the offices also feature energy-efficient lighting and high recycled-content carpet.
